Trust Freedom Card Referral Code 2GG9T8K3: Cashback or Stockback — A Decision Guide, Not Just a Feature List

Every Trust Freedom Card post I've read just lists the three reward options and moves on. Nobody actually tells you which one to pick for your situation. So instead of another feature dump, here's how I'd think through the decision — plus the referral code (2GG9T8K3) if you land on "yes, sign up."

Start here: what does your spending actually look like?

If you can honestly answer these three questions, you'll know which reward suits you before reading another word.

Question 1 — Do you spend more than roughly S$1,100/month on the card?

  • Under that, Stockback's S$500/quarter cap won't bind you, so it's fully available
  • Over that, you'll hit the cap before quarter-end and the marginal spend earns nothing extra under Stockback specifically

Question 2 — Would you rather receive cash or build a small US stock position passively?

  • If cash is more useful to you right now (paying bills, no interest in stock ownership), skip Stockback entirely
  • If you already have a taste for investing and like the idea of dollar-cost-averaging into names like Apple or Microsoft without opening a separate brokerage account, Stockback does that automatically

Question 3 — Do you spend fairly evenly, or do you have one dominant category (dining, groceries, transport)?

  • Evenly spread → Unlimited Cashback (up to 1.5%) is the simplest, no strategy required
  • One dominant category → Bonus Cashback (up to 15%) can beat both other options if that category qualifies, but only on the capped portion

The three options, compared honestly

3% Stockback: Capped at S$500 worth of stock per quarter, applies to both local and foreign spend, choose from NVIDIA, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, or Tesla. This rate is promotional — it steps down to 2% local / 0.5% foreign from 1 January 2027, so treat the 3% window as time-limited, not permanent.

Up to 1.5% Unlimited Cashback: No cap, no category restrictions, straightforward. The "up to" matters — check the current tier structure in-app, as the exact rate can depend on your spend level.

Up to 15% Bonus Cashback: Pick one category each quarter. Highest ceiling of the three, but only on a capped spend amount within that category — read the specific terms for whichever category you're eyeing before assuming you'll hit 15% on everything.

The part nobody mentions: you're not locked in

You can switch your selected reward every quarter with no fee and no penalty. So the "right" choice isn't permanent — if your spending pattern changes (new job, moved city, started investing), you can just switch next quarter.

The sign-up gift, and why your choice here matters twice

New Freedom Card customers get a sure-win gift until 31 Oct 2026: choose Stockback and your guaranteed gift comes as stock (up to 8K USD), choose Cashback instead and it comes as cash (up to S$8,000). Your reward selection at sign-up doesn't just set your ongoing earn rate — it also determines the currency of your one-time welcome gift. Worth deciding deliberately rather than defaulting.

Other things that are true regardless of which reward you pick

  • Zero foreign transaction fee
  • Zero annual card fee, permanently
  • Zero commission on selling stocks (relevant if you're on Stockback and eventually cash out)
  • Personalised interest rate from as low as 18.9% p.a. if you ever carry a balance — though obviously the goal is to avoid needing that entirely

If you've decided

👉 Referral Code: 2GG9T8K3 — enter it at the "Get Started" screen before your application, apply for the Freedom Card, and pick your reward deliberately using the questions above rather than defaulting to whatever the app suggests first.

Would genuinely like to hear which of the three people here actually picked and why — I feel like Stockback gets recommended reflexively without anyone checking if the spender's monthly volume even clears S$500/quarter worth of benefit.
